Le Mans: Pedrosa makes 'haste' as sun shines
17 May 2013
Fresh from his first victory of the year at Jerez, Dani Pedrosa led both of Friday's closely contested free practice sessions for the French MotoGP.
Surprisingly for Le Mans, MotoGP got in almost a complete day of dry track time - barring a brief shower just before the start of the afternoon session.
Pedrosa was 0.040s clear of Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo in the morning session, then improved by six tenths to hold his position at the top by 0.134s over rookie team-mate Marc Marquez in the afternoon.
“In today's practice sessions it was important to test the tyres and make the most of the dry track time, because here you usually don't have that opportunity,” said Pedrosa.
“So I tried to stay out on track for as long as possible and gather the best information, because maybe tomorrow it will rain - and you don't have that chance again.
“Luckily the weather held up and we were able to make some positive steps, which we hope to capitalise on for the race on Sunday."
Pedrosa, Marquez and Lorenzo will all be fighting to become the first double race winner of the season on Sunday.
