LCR chasing two rider team

“Our primary target is to have a two rider team in MotoGP and then maybe to look at the smaller categories” - Lucio Cecchinello, LCR.
LCR Honda boss Lucio Cecchinello is still working towards a two rider team in MotoGP, but currently rates his chances at just 30% for next season.

LCR has run a single satellite Honda MotoGP entry since stepping up to the premier-class, with Casey Stoner, in 2006.

“We are trying to involve another rider that can bring in some support because at this moment, with our sponsor, we are not able to do this,” said Cecchinello, speaking at last weekend's Monaco F1 Grand Prix.

But asked about his chances of a two-rider line-up for 2014, the former grand prix winner replied: “30%, we have to be realistic.”

With each factory limited to four MotoGP machines, LCR's expansion plans would require either taking over the other RC213V currently run by Gresini, or - more likely - using the second entry for a privateer/CRT specification bike, such as the new production Honda.

LCR previously ran teams in the other grand prix classes as well as MotoGP. Cecchinello didn't rule out joining Gresini, Tech 3, Aspar, Avintia, Forward Racing and Ioda in the Moto2 or Moto3 categories - once the bigger MotoGP presence is in place.

“Our primary target is to have a two rider team in MotoGP and then maybe to look at the smaller categories,” he confirmed.

Former Moto2 champion Stefan Bradl has been LCR's rider since the start of 2012. After a solid debut season, HRC has podium expectations for the young German, but Bradl is currently just eleventh in the standings after non-scores in two of the opening four rounds.

“In general we must say that we have been not so lucky in the first four races,” said Cecchinello. “We had three crashes, this is the reality and I have to admit that, but what is important is we understood the reason that we crashed.

“Mainly it was that we had too much weight over the front tyre. We had maybe not the right engine braking set-up.

“I definitely think that [Bradl] has podium potential,” Cecchinello added. “I have to admit that we followed some direction from him for the set-up but probably it wasn't the best set-up solution.

“So we've now changed the set-up and definitely now he is riding better.

“What is positive is that he really understands and he tries to make what is suggested in terms of riding style. Now we have said that he must use the rear brake more on entry to the corner.
