Pedrosa to the top in final practice

Dani Pedrosa fastest during free practice 4 for the Italian MotoGP at Mugello.
MotoGP title leader Dani Pedrosa moved to the top of the Mugello timesheets for the first time this weekend during final free practice.

Over one-second adrift of Jorge Lorenzo's Yamaha on Friday, Pedrosa had made significant progress to get within 0.250s of the reigning world champion this morning.

The Repsol Honda rider, whose RCV seems to enjoy the heat, then moved ahead for the first time this weekend by finishing the short 30-minute FP4 session 0.095s clear of Lorenzo. However Lorenzo's morning time remained marginally quicker.

Behind the two Spaniards were LCR Honda's Stefan Bradl (+0.313s) and Lorenzo's team-mate and home hero Valentino Rossi (+0.379s).

A clear gap then followed to Cal Crutchlow (+0.783s) Andrea Dovizioso (+0.848s) and Marc Marquez, who was the last rider within one-second of his team-mate Pedrosa.

Marquez, riding battered and bruised after a huge Friday fall, will join fellow rookies Bradley Smith (riding with a hand injury) and Andrea Iannone in the first part of qualifying.

The top two riders in Q1 will then progress to Q2, where they will join top ten after third practice.
