This picture shows Max Biaggi completing his first MotoGP laps since 2005, during day one of a private Ducati test at Mugello on Thursday.

The former grand prix star and double World Superbike champion spent his premier-class career with Yamaha and Honda.

The two-day Ducati test thus marks the Italian's first appearance on a Desmosedici and also Bridgestone tyres.

Biaggi, who retired from racing at the end of last season, is riding the machine of Ben Spies - prompting speculation that he may replace the injured Texan in upcoming races.

However Pramac state "at the moment" there are no plans beyond this test and that Ducati development rider Michele Pirro will replace Spies in Catalunya next weekend.

No lap times were released for day one of testing, which was interrupted by rain. Biaggi, plus Ducati racers Nicky Hayden, Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone are due back on track tomorrow (Friday).
