10 June 2013

Former double MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner has been appointed a 'Member of the Order of Australia (AM)' in the Queen's Birthday honours.

The Australian, who retired from MotoGP at the end of last season, received the honour "For significant service to motorcycle racing".

Stoner was a full time grand prix rider from 2002-2012, claiming 38 of his 45 victories in the premier MotoGP class, where he won world titles for Ducati (2007) and Honda (2011).

The 27-year-old has now turned his attention to V8 touring car racing.
