Maintaining Mugello momentum key for Lorenzo

Jorge Lorenzo romped to a dominant victory last time in Mugello and, given his struggles at the previous French Grand Prix, the Yamaha rider knew that it was crucial to bounce back to form in Italy.

This weekend the reigning world champion will look to maintain his Mugello momentum at Montmelo, an event he will start twelve points behind compatriot Dani Pedrosa (Honda).

When asked how it felt to have won in Italy, Lorenzo said: "It was a very important win after the unexpected place at Le Mans and we wanted to put away this bad feeling and we got it.

“From the beginning [of Mugello weekend] we were real competitive, not just me but Cal and Valentino were so fast, and the rest were coming but finally we could manage to win again like last year.

“Hopefully at this track we can continue this good performance and try to win again if it possible or at least finish on the podium."

Lorenzo, a double world champion in both the 250cc class and MotoGP at Catalunya, knows that consistency wins title and finishing on the rostrum will be the key to challenging for a third premier class crown this year.

But the scorching Barcelona weather could work against the Yamaha this weekend, which seems to lose ground to Honda when the heat rises.

“When I arrived at the track I felt the heat. It is a lot. Maybe too much, but for everyone it is the same," said Lorenzo. "So we must focus to do the best performance in whatever conditions we have.”
