Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa
failed to improve on his time from FP1 during the second free practice session in the afternoon at Catalunya, but the MotoGP world championship leader still ended the day in third place on the time sheets.
Pedrosa completed 18 laps in the morning on his RC213V, experimenting with both the soft front and rear Bridgestone options and setting the second quickest time in FP1 in 1m 42.445s, which gave him the third fastest lap overall.
The track temperature at the Spanish circuit soared in the afternoon for FP2 and Pedrosa mainly focused on testing a hard rear after initially running the soft tyre he had used in the morning session.
Pedrosa, whose fastest afternoon lap was 1m 42.557s, said: “Above all today, we focused on testing tyres.
“We were able to ride some laps with the soft tyres and also the hards, in order to see which are best suited to the track.
“Getting the choice right is very important at this circuit, because it is always hot in the race and it is usually a key to managing this,” he added.
“The tyres suffer a little when we lean the bike over, but we are working on this issue.
“We still haven't decided which compounds we will use, so we will see what tomorrow brings and then go from there.”
