Marquez ‘on target’ with sixth

15 June 2013

MotoGP rookie sensation Marc Marquez qualified sixth for his home race in Catalunya on Saturday.

When speaking with the media afterwards the Repsol Honda rider insisted he was relatively happy with his starting position - despite having led the morning session - saying it met the targets he had set himself.

With no pre-season test at the technical Cicuit de Catalunya, Marquez thought this would be one of the more challenging weekends of his debut premier-class season.

"I said on Thursday that this circuit would be difficult because all of the other riders have done lots of MotoGP tests here," said the reigning Moto2 world champion.

"It's one of the most difficult circuits, like Mugello, with many long corners and with MotoGP you need to try and go into the corner fast and be wide in the middle of the corner to prepare for the exit.

“In the morning I felt more comfortable, with the track temperatures lower than in the afternoon. When they rose sharply, we had more problems. Despite this, I think that we have done a good job.

“Tomorrow we will try something with the set-up to improve the corner exit. At the moment I am hitting my target of the first two rows."

Like many other riders Marquez will use tomorrow's warm-up session to come to a decision regarding which compound of rear tyre to use during the 25 lap race.

"The hard tyre is working not so bad and the soft is working better at the beginning but struggling at the end. With the hard tyre you need to plan the race and with the soft you try and attack."
