2014 Honda could make MotoGP debut this season
18 June 2013
While wet weather prevented Repsol Honda from testing in Aragon on Tuesday, team technical director Takeo Yokoyama used the opportunity to officially unveil the 2014 RC213V prototype.
"This is the prototype of 2014 machine. It is a complete new bike, both in term of engine and chassis,” he said.
“Our plan is to test it now in order to be able to do, eventually, some change before the post-race test in Valencia in November.”
But Yokoyama also confirmed that Honda will do its best to provide factory racers Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez with the new machine for use this season, should the debut test prove positive.
“If Dani and Marc find something in the bike that they really feel is a big improvement compared with their actual RC213V, HRC will do its best to provide this already later this season, as we already did last year.”
Pedrosa's 2012 season was transformed after switching to the 2013 prototype from Laguna Seca onwards.
The Spaniard finished the season second in the standings with seven wins - more than any other riders - having claimed six of his victories after changing to the '13 model.
Unlike last year, Pedrosa already leads this year's world championship standings, albeit by just seven points over Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo, with race-winning rookie Marquez in third.
Yamaha, Suzuki and the satellite Honda teams, which were testing at a sunny Catalunya on Monday, are also present at Aragon this week.
Lorenzo has won three races so far this season, Pedrosa two and Marquez one.Don't miss out! The next round of the 2013 MotoGP World Championship takes place at Assen on June 27-29 - CLICK HERE to see ticket prices from the Official MotoGP Ticket Store.
