PICS: Bradley Smith takes a hit from M1

19 June 2013

Already riding with hand injuries from Mugello, this was not the way that MotoGP rookie Bradley Smith wanted to start the Catalunya weekend.

See below for more pictures.

"It was another big fall. I lost the front and as I tried to save it the rear tyre gripped and threw me off."

Despite landing close to his helmet, the bike actually struck Smith's leg.

"The bike hit my left knee and that's why I was limping in the gravel but luckily I am fine."

The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider bounced back in style to claim a best-yet sixth place in Sunday's race - then headed for further hand surgery on Monday afternoon.

"MotoGP bikes are extremely fickle beasts and a little bit like my dog. They sense when you are nervous," Smith added in his latest Crash.net column.

"The Yamaha likes you to push it but be smooth and relaxed. When you are nervous your input becomes too aggressive, making you tense on the bike which then does not do what it is supposed to do.

"You get more tense and into a downward spiral and crash as I did on Friday."
