Lorenzo sets record Aragon pace for test double

“This time from the beginning I have been very competitive with a lot of confidence” - Jorge Lorenzo.
MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo continued the momentum from his Catalunya victory by completing a testing double at Aragon on Wednesday.

The Yamaha star, now just seven points behind Honda's Dani Pedrosa in the 2013 title chase, had led the way during an official post-race test in Barcelona on Monday.

The Spaniard then repeated the feat during a further one day outing - alongside Honda and Suzuki - at Aragon, when he lapped 0.375s under Casey Stoner's pole record to finish 0.358s clear of Honda rookie Marc Marquez.

Lorenzo worked through a number of set-up changes along with evaluation of a new Bridgestone tyre.

“Compared to normal I've been stronger today,” said Lorenzo, who has finished 4-3-2 in the previous Aragon GPs. “At this track normally I suffer many problems in setting up the bike and getting the bike to work like in other tracks. This time from the beginning I have been very competitive with a lot of confidence.

“Also I think I am in very good shape so I have taken profit of it. I could also test a new tyre to put myself in a qualifying situation and I did a very good lap time. We are just testing very little things but it is better than nothing.”

Team manager Wilco Zeelenberg added: “The result of this test is quite similar to the one in Barcelona two days ago, we tried the same things and they had the same positive outcome. No dramatic things but set-up wise and feeling wise the bike improved and Jorge is feeling good.

“The main target was to get more confidence on the bike and improve the consistency as well. I think we were able to deliver both for him which is very positive. If you have that on two different tracks it says something so let's see if we can use that in the coming races.”

Lorenzo's team-mate Valentino Rossi was fourth quickest.

The next round of the MotoGP World Championship takes place at Assen, next Saturday.

Lorenzo is digging deep. Even deeper than last year. A true champion at a high level and still growing as a rider and as a human. It's hard to believe he's the lowest paid of the 2 Yamaha factory riders.

@ Dacron I think Westie doesn't fear bad weather! :-) Too bad he ain't that great in the dry! Lorenzo is a guy who expects a lot from himself. He has so many ideals and rules and regulations that he puts on himself. It does make him a bit cranky in some situations, but I think it also gives him a lot of mental strength. A lot of self belief. No matter what the situation is he looks at it positively, even though he doesn't state it. He doesn't doubt even once in his mind that he can't achieve it. That is what makes him very very dangerous.
