Ducati is considering building a privateer version of its Desmosedici MotoGP prototype, for the 2014 season.
The move, which would mirror the Production RCV being offered by Honda, was revealed by Ducati MotoGP project director Paolo Ciabatti in an interview with the official MotoGP website.
"Since next year's rules will allow a full MotoGP bike to run in what was the [privateer] CRT class, if they use the single ECU and software, we are considering making the 2013 bike available with this package," said Ciabatti. "Ideally we will make four of these bikes available, we have been discussing with some teams but nothing has been decided yet. We must also talk with Pramac (Ducati's satellite team)."
Privateer machines must use the full control ECU system next year - software and hardware - but will have the advantage of four litres more fuel per race than official entries by MSMA (Manufactures' Association) members and can have twelve, instead of five, engine changes per season.
Ciabatti signalled that the privateer machines would probably be in addition to Ducati's four factory bikes. Each MotoGP manufacturer is restricted to four such official bikes (factory or satellite).
As well as the Honda Production racer, Yamaha has confirmed it will offer full-spec M1 engines for lease by privateers next season, when the existing privateer 'claiming rule' looks set to be dropped.
