Aoyama set for MotoGP return - minus fingertip

10 July 2013

Hiroshi Aoyama is planning to make his MotoGP return this weekend in Germany, after being forced to miss the last two races due to finger injuries suffered at Catalunya.

The Avintia Blusens rider underwent surgery to reconstruct both injured fingers on his left hand, although the tip of his ring finger required amputation.

“I am delighted that Dr. Mir gives me permission to travel to Germany and participate at the GP,” said Aoyama. “I am aware that until I do not get on the bike and ride, I will not know how I feel, but the fact of being able to be back is already a lot.

“The time that I needed after the operation allowed me to recover completely from the injuries I also had from previous falls, so now we will just have to be waiting for how the hand injuries limited me but, in any case, I am very happy to be able to get on my bike again.”

Aoyama's only point of the season so far came courtesy of 15th place at the Qatar season opener.
