Andrea Dovizioso will have one 'new' version of the Ducati Desmosedici available at this weekend's German MotoGP.
Speaking at the Sachsenring on Thursday, Dovizioso explained the exact specification of the machine.
“It is the next step of what [test rider] Pirro has raced up to now,” said Dovizioso, referring to the 'lab' bike used by Michele Pirro while replacing injured Pramac rider Ben Spies.
“We tried it just for a few laps on the first day at the Misano test.
“My feeling on braking and corner entry is a little bit better, but it doesn't make a big different to the lap time. We aren't fighting for the championship so we take this risk.
“We have one bike with the new chassis here and the other is standard. It's just more data to have with the new material.
“In Misano we made a good lap time - we couldn't compare with Honda or Yamaha of course - and we arrive here after a bad result in Assen. I don't know how the Ducati will be at this track, the level at the front is so high. We will focus and do our best.”
Reflecting on his first seven races as a factory Ducati rider, in which he has claimed a best finish of fourth in the wet at Le Mans, Dovizioso said:
“When I decided to go to Ducati we knew we need a lot of time. We haven't improved as much as we wanted. I think we need some more changes. It's not the best for Ducati or the riders, but it's the reality.
“I have to try to give the best feedback to the engineers and do the best I can do with this bike. If we can organise in a better way for the future I think the results will come but we need more time.”
Team-mate Nicky Hayden
will stick with the standard Desmosedici this weekend, while Pramac's Andrea Iannone will join Pirro in running the lab bike.Be there! CLICK HERE to see ticket prices for the remaining rounds of the 2013 MotoGP World Championship from the Official MotoGP Ticket Store.
