US MotoGP: Dani Pedrosa to sit out FP3

Dani Pedrosa will miss third free practice at Laguna Seca and therefore not attempt to claim an automatic place in Qualifying 2.
Injured MotoGP title contender Dani Pedrosa will again miss morning practice at Laguna Seca.

Pedrosa missed the cool and misty Friday morning session to rest his cracked collarbone, before setting the eleventh quickest time in the afternoon.

With more cool and foggy weather on Saturday morning, Repsol Honda has announced that Pedrosa will "sit out FP3 and wait for [track] conditions to improve in FP4". But that also means Pedrosa has abandoned any chance of a top ten lap time and will thus need to fight over the two transfer places in Qualifying 1.

Pedrosa is two points behind rookie team-mate Marc Marquez, fastest on Friday. Reigning champion Jorge Lorenzo, also carrying collarbone injuries, rode on Friday morning and looks set to do so again on Saturday.

With the summer break up next, there is reason to hope Lorenzo and Dani will still be within range when the season resumes. The important thing is not to worsen the injuries this weekend and just limit the damage to the points.
