Espargaro: We have to focus on the positives

23 July 2013

Aleix Espargaro's dominant run of results came to an abrupt halt in the US MotoGP round at Laguna Seca on Sunday after the Spanish star fell at the final turn on the fifth lap.

It was his first fall in a race in a year-and-a-half with the Power Electronics Aspar Team.

Espargaro has made the CRT division his own this season and finished eighth in his last two races at Assen and the Sachsenring, mixing it up with the full MotoGP prototypes.

However, Espargaro – whose team-mate Randy de Puniet was forced out on the fourth lap with a technical problem – will have to wait until after the summer break to make amends at Indianapolis in the USA.

“It is a shame for the first half of the season to end this way but we have to focus on the positives because we have achieved some incredible things and I am sure at Indianapolis we will be back to our best,” said Espargaro, who lost the front end at the final corner.

“We have struggled a little bit to find a set-up this weekend and I didn't have the same feel for the bike that I have at other tracks but I felt ready for the race.

“With the higher temperatures we decided to run the harder tyres but I didn't have a good feeling for them and after a year and a half with the Power Electronics Aspar Team I have crashed out of a race for the first time,” he added.

“These things happen though and we have to turn the page and start thinking about coming back stronger at Indianapolis.”
