Bradley Smith improved his time by more than half a second in FP2 at Brno as the MotoGP rookie concluded afternoon practice in seventh position.

Smith's time of 1m 57.351s was 0.5s adrift of his Tech 3 Yamaha team-mate Cal Crutchlow in sixth.

The 22-year-old, eighth in FP1 this morning, had to contend with some front-end issues with the M1 but nonetheless is in optimistic mood following day one in the Czech Republic.

All six riders who finished ahead of Smith on the time sheets have tasted MotoGP victory or finished on the rostrum, providing further evidence of the young British prospect's progress this season.

"Today was a positive start to the weekend although I encountered a couple of small issues with the front-end," said Smith.

"I need to get some more grip to allow me to carry more corner speed but I am happy because I was able to make a big step in the second session.

"This is a track that the Yamaha really likes and I am enjoying riding the YZR-M1 here, so if I can get some more confidence with the front I am sure I can be even stronger," he added.

"It is going to be difficult to make that final step to get into the 56s but we will pour over the data tonight and try and find a solution to help me do that."
