Alvaro Bautista claimed his best qualifying result of the season at Brno on Saturday - with a little help from Marc Marquez!
Bautista clung to the back wheel of the title leader during his first run, and was towed to the top with a new pole record.
Cal Crutchlow was later able to beat the Gresini Honda rider to pole by 0.227s, but Bautista held second place ahead of Marquez.
“I struggled all weekend with rear grip and today we found something that helped me and I could push a lot,” said the Spaniard.
“I also have to buy Marc a dinner for his help, because I did one lap behind him! But anyway you still have to make the lap time and it's not easy just to follow one of those guys. I improved in some parts by myself as well.
“The weather is not clear for tomorrow, but I will try to make a good start and push as hard as I can. I hope to have the same feeling in the race as at Laguna Seca.
“We are improving our bike, especially the suspension with Showa and getting closer to the front, but we still need some details. There are plenty of races left to get there.”
Bautista's only previous 2013 front row, a third place start at Laguna Seca, led to a best of the year fourth in the race.
