Reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo gave Yamaha a welcome moral boost by moving to the head of the Friday practice timesheets during FP2 at Silverstone.

Lorenzo, who has lost points to Honda's rookie title leader Marc Marquez at the last five rounds, slashed over one-second from Marquez's pace setting morning time to dip under his own official race lap record and lead the afternoon action from start to finish.

Lorenzo's best lap came early in the session, during the first of two afternoon runs, while Marquez set his fastest of the day at the start of his third and final run.
