San Marino MotoGP: Lorenzo 'strong again' thinking 'race-by-race'

“At last we achieved a great victory against Marc” - Jorge Lorenzo.
Buoyed by a last lap victory over title leader Marc Marquez at Silverstone, Jorge Lorenzo feels he is now back to his pre-accident best heading into this weekend's Misano round.

Lorenzo's British GP win for Yamaha was his first since Catalunya in June, after which the reigning double champion broke his collarbone at Assen, then re-damaged it in Germany.

But despite his return to victory Lorenzo is still 39 points behind rookie Marquez - who had won the previous four races -and nine points from the other Repsol Honda of Dani Pedrosa, with six rounds to go.

“I feel strong again like I was at Montmeló and Mugello before the [Assen] crash,” declared Lorenzo.

“The performance at Silverstone was really good, the only weak point there was the top speed compared to our rivals, but at last we achieved a great victory against Marc.

“I thought it was pretty difficult to beat him when he overtook me but finally I could get the win and it was fantastic.

“Misano is a track I enjoy a lot and also the Yamaha is comfortable there. My next goal is to fight for the victory once more and think race by race, improving our pace step by step.”

Lorenzo has won at Misano for the past two seasons.

A post race test will be held on Monday where Yamaha are rumoured to be running their new seamless shift gearbox again, ahead of a possible race debut at the following Aragon event.

JL's Silverstone win was sublime - he got that Yamaha ahead of the HRC's when it had no business being there. The win was a demonstration of JL's ability rather than the bike's - MM & DP had the better package (as they have had all year). I think JL is making the Yamaha look more competitive than it really is - Honda's budgets have told within the lunatic rules framework and HRC are now unbeatable for the WC. I think the best JL can hope for is to nick the odd result, but the WC (for riders and Mfrs) was a done deal some time ago IMO.
