Home hero Rossi 'always fast' at Misano
11 September 2013
Valentino Rossi is confident he can rise to the occasion during the most local of his two home rounds, at Misano this weekend.
The official Italian MotoGP may be held at Mugello, but Misano is just a few kilometres from Rossi's home town of Tavullia.
The circuit returned to the calendar in 2007, when fans were left deflated after Rossi retired with a mechanical problem. But he made up for it by winning in both 2008 and 2009 (pictured), then claiming a podium whilst regaining fitness from a broken leg in 2010.
Misano also marked one of the rare highlights for Rossi as a Ducati rider, sealing second place behind present team-mate Lorenzo in last year's race.
Now back at Yamaha, Rossi returns to Misano holding fourth in the world championship, with four podiums and one win so far this year.
“Misano is my home grand prix and an important weekend,” said the seven time MotoGP champion. “I like the track, I always go fast there, especially with the Yamaha and last year also I was able to do a very good race [with Ducati].
“In the past I was always on the podium with Yamaha. We will arrive very strong and we will try to do our best.”
Rossi has finished in fourth place at the last three events, while the factory M1 riders haven't shared the podium since round one in Qatar.
“Hopefully we can get both riders on the podium,” declared team director Massimo Meregalli. “The bike is constantly improving and we are feeling pretty positive.”
Rossi and team-mate Lorenzo, winner at Misano for the past two seasons, are expected to again try Yamaha's seamless shift gearbox in Monday's post-race test.
