Bradl: Long and tough race for everybody

14 September 2013

Having struggled with a lack of front-end grip throughout the opening day of practice for the San Marino MotoGP, which included a crash, Stefan Bradl went on to qualify seventh on Saturday.

The LCR Honda rider was over one-second off the pace and needs further improvement ahead of the 27 lap race, which the former Moto2 champion expects to be exceptionally difficult given that he has suffered a severe drop off in tyre performance after just a handful of laps.

“Today was nothing special," said Bradl. "I would like to be a little bit faster but unfortunately even though we improved the bike compared to yesterday so did the other guys and we kind of stayed in the same position and had similar problems compared to yesterday even with the changes that we made to the geometry and putting more weight on the front of the bike."

With the majority of the field suffering from a severe lack of front end grip - even pole sitter Marc Marquez, who smashed the lap record in qualifying, crashed in FP4 - Bradl knows that he is not alone.

"Obviously everybody has a lack of grip on the front so it's difficult for me to go faster. It will be a long and tough race for everybody because the tyre will drop off so much and then you have to just manage the situation as well as you can and not drop the lap time as much as you can. I'll do my best but it's difficult to have a target for tomorrow."
