Misano MotoGP Test: 'Details' for Dovizioso, 'information' for Hayden

“Today's test was interesting because you can always work on small details after a race” - Andrea Dovizioso.
Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso finished eighth in Sunday's Misano MotoGP, with the eight fastest race lap, and was again eighth in Monday's post-race test.

However the Italian did lower the lap time difference to the top, from 1.282s in the race to 0.854s at the test, when he worked mainly on 'electronic and software strategies', larger brake discs - with an eye toward the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi - plus the new Bridgestone rear tyre.

“Today's test was interesting because you can always work on small details after a race, as you have all the parameters from the weekend. We didn't try any new parts, but we did some small tests with the balance that helped us to understand some things,” said Dovi.

“We tried the bigger brakes, which we might use in Japan, and they work very well. There was also a new tyre that Bridgestone brought; it could let us also use the hard option during the weekends, as we normally just use the soft.

“The conditions today were good and we dropped our fast lap time a bit, so we hope that these small improvements will help us at Aragon.”

Nicky Hayden, denied the chance to try the latest spec Desmosedici - as used by Dovizioso - followed a similar test schedule to his team-mate. As in the race, the American was one place behind his team-mate on the timesheets.

“We got a late start because of the weather, but then we just worked through the day and pretty much tested everything we wanted to try. We didn't have anything too major, just some different set-up options that we may want to use at some races later in the year,” said Hayden, tipped to switch to Aspar Aprilia for 2014.

“On a positive note, we tried the new hard Bridgestone tyre, which seemed to work pretty well and should definitely be good for some tracks later in the season if it's available. We also tested brakes for Motegi. In general, we didn't find any big breakthroughs, but we got some good information.”

Meanwhile, Michele Pirro was back in Ducati Test Team colours, sharing his bike with fellow development rider Franco Battaini to analyse a 2014-spec engine plus new software.

Pirro, who has substituted for the injured Ben Spies at Pramac for most of this year, set the twelfth fastest time at the test. Yonny Hernandez will take over at Pramac for the upcoming events.

Another test another "We didn't bring any new parts" statement. Seriously... I love Ducati (have always dreamed of a 748...), but they always seem to be playing with the electronics when there is a much deeper problem to the bike than that. I just don't see how this is going to move them forward :(
