Espargaro edging closer to Forward Racing deal?

20 September 2013

Spanish website Motocuatro.com claims that Forward Racing will stump up the cash to meet a 400,000 Euros release clause to sign Aleix Espargaro from Aspar.

The site reports that Espargaro, who has dominated the MotoGP CRT class this season for the Power Electronics team, will pay 100,000 Euros towards the fee himself to ride one of NGM Forward Racing's FTR-kitted Yamaha M1s next year.

Espargaro is guaranteed a new contract with Aspar in 2014 if he ends the season as the leading CRT rider, a scenario that is all but assured as the Spanish star is 41 points ahead of nearest challenger Colin Edwards.

Aspar is understood to have initially demanded 600,000 Euros to release Espargaro from his contract, but Motocautro says the financial requirement was eased after Aspar secured the services of American Nicky Hayden for 2014.

The report also claims that Espargaro will be tied to Forward Racing for two years and will be forced to repay the team around 300,000 Euros if he wishes to leave within that timescale.

NGM Forward Racing will run two FTR-kitted Yamaha M1s leased from the factory, with current rider Edwards tipped to be retained next year.

Nicky Hayden's proposed move to the factory-backed Aspar Aprilia team, meanwhile, is strongly rumoured to be a done deal.

Aleix's brother Pol will step up from Moto2 to MotoGP with Tech 3 Yamaha next season.
