Stefan Bradl made an excellent start to the Aragon MotoGP weekend by setting the second fastest lap time in Friday practice.

The Honda LCR rider showed the kind of form that netted a debut pole and a podium at Laguna Seca this year by posting a lap time just 0.132s slower than championship leader Marc Marquez - and ahead of the other factory Honda of Dani Pedrosa.

Bradl showed encouraging pace on the harder rear tyre before joining the frontrunners on the softer option to set his best time.

"It was a good first day for us because we achieved a good position and we are very close to the top guys," said Bradl. "Secondly I am very happy with the bike right now: we have a kind of combination of settings which includes also Aragon test set up and Misano set up.

"We have a good feedback from both rear and front tyres and I can push to the limit so I am satisfied about our pace so far. Let's see what is going to happen tomorrow but I am pretty optimistic".

Bradl is currently 20 points behind Tech 3 Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow in the battle for top satellite rider honours. Crutchlow was sixth quickest on day one.
