Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa says a fast start will be crucial in tomorrow's Aragon MotoGP as the Spanish star targets a strong opening to the race.
Jorge Lorenzo has set a blistering pace on the opening laps in recent races to gain an advantage on the Factory Yamaha and Pedrosa is determined to stay in touch with his title rivals on the RC213V.
He qualified on the front row in third place behind team-mate Marc Marquez and Lorenzo and Pedrosa was left feeling happy with his day's work.
“Even though the position on the grid maybe doesn't reflect it, today we had a good qualifying session,” he said.
“We did a good job today and a lap time that I'm pleased with, for tomorrow the key will be to have a good start as the first corner is very close to the start, so I want to have a strong first few laps and maintain a good pace for the whole race.
“The tyre wear will be crucial so it's also important to manage them for the race distance.”
Pedrosa is tied with Lorenzo in second place in the championship, 34 points behind Marquez, but hasn't won since round four in France.
