Valentino Rossi signalled his podium intent by leading morning warm-up for the Aragon MotoGP.

Rossi has finished in fourth place, behind the title-fighting trio, at the last four races.

The Italian megastar was again fourth in Aragon qualifying, but in confident mood after lapping just 0.158s from pole sitter and rookie title leader Marc Marquez - whom Rossi then out-paced by 0.018s in the morning warm-up.

Rossi, who claimed his 80th MotoGP win at Assen earlier this year, led all but the opening five minutes of the warm-up session, setting a best time of 1m 49.180s on the 3rd of 10 (consecutive) fast laps.

Monster Yamaha Tech 3's Cal Crutchlow also had an encouraging session, putting his worst qualifying of the year (seventh) behind him with third place and just 0.097s from Rossi.

Unlike Rossi and factory Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, Crutchlow and Bradley Smith do not have the new seamless shift gearbox.

Marquez's Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa was fourth this morning (+0.152), with Lorenzo - who lost out to Marquez by just 0.010s in qualifying - fifth and LCR Honda's Stefan Bradl sixth (+0.257s).

Marquez, Lorenzo, Pedrosa, Rossi, Bradl and Alvaro Bautista will fill the front two rows on this afternoon's grid.

Marquez holds a 34-point advantage over both Lorenzo - winner of the last two races - and team-mate Pedrosa.
