Pedrosa goes top, riding in 'pain'

11 October 2013

Dani Pedrosa claimed the top spot for Repsol Honda as free practice got underway at the Malaysian MotoGP, despite riding in considerable pain.

Pedrosa's quickest lap in the afternoon of 2m 00.55s was only 0.22s off Jorge Lorenzo's 2012 pole time at Sepang and gave him an advantage of half-a-second over team-mate Marquez in second.

However, the Spaniard – whose title hopes were all but ended after he controversially crashed out of contention in the previous round at Aragon following contact by Marquez – is experiencing a considerable degree of discomfort on the RC213V.

“Today went well; we had two good practice sessions and were able to ride in dry conditions in both the morning and afternoon,” said Pedrosa.

“In the second session it looked like the track was going to be wet after a brief rain shower in-between FP1 and FP2, but it dried out quickly and we were able to continue working on our set-ups.

“When sitting on the bike I have quite a lot of pain, as the seat is very hard, so we shall see if a few more anti-inflammatories can help to alleviate the issue,” he added.

“We might also add a small cushion underneath my leathers, in order to absorb the bumps that we get when riding.”
