UPDATED: The afternoon sessions have now also been delayed

Friday morning practice for the Japanese MotoGP has been cancelled.

Wet and foggy conditions have severely reduced visibility at the remote Motegi circuit, preventing use of the medical helicopter.

After waiting several hours with no improvement in the weather, it was announced that all FP1 sessions - MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 - have been abandoned.

Race Direction has not yet given up on FP2, with the afternoon schedule 'to be announced'.

Motegi has thus become the second disrupted grand prix in as many weeks, with tyre problems forcing a revised race for the Moto2 and MotoGP classes in Australia last weekend.
