'Caterham Bikes' launched in Milan

"Expanding our interests into the two-wheeled market is another natural progression for us" - Tony Fernandes.
When Caterham confirmed plans for a 2014 Moto2 team at the Malaysian MotoGP, the company - best known for its 'Seven' range of sport cars and F1 team - strongly hinted that two-wheels would form part of its commercial future.

A new 'Caterham Bikes' division has now been announced at the International Motorcycle Exhibition in Milan, with three prototype designs also unveiled.

“The launch of Caterham Bikes is a natural extension to the expanding Caterham Group since the purchase of the historic Caterham Cars brand in April 2011 by Tony Fernandes and Dato' Kamarudin Meranun,” said a Caterham statement.

“The two-wheeled division joins Caterham F1 Team, Caterham Racing (GP2), Caterham Technology & Innovation, Caterham Composites and the latest arm, Caterham Moto Racing, in the rapidly growing Caterham family and we are proud to unveil our first three prototype products at EICMA 2013.

“The Brutus 750 (dubbed the 'SUV of motorcycles' - pictured), Classic E-Bike (an all-electric bike with retro styling) and Carbon E-Bike (a premium bike with close ties to F1 through its use of composite materials) - will be launched throughout 2014 as part of the Group's strategy of growth through intelligent partnerships.

“More new models will be announced next year as we strive to expand this exciting new arm of the Caterham business.”

The launch of Caterham Bikes means the Moto2 project makes a lot more sense. Fernandes feels two-wheels is a natural next step.

“Expanding our interests into the two-wheeled market is another natural progression for us and is a good opportunity to showcase the breadth of knowledge, experience and creativity we have at our disposal across the Group, now in the two-wheeled world in addition to all of our other automotive, technology and innovation interests.”
