Following the earlier news
of an agreement between Valentino Rossi's VR46 Riders Academy and Aspar, to develop young riders in the CEV Spanish Championship, it has now been revealed that the first to be signed up is Rossi's half-brother Luca Marini.
The youngster will make his Aspar debut in the final round of this season at Jerez.
Marini has already contested the fourth round of the current championship earlier this year at Albacete and made his world championship debut as a wild-card at the Misano, which ended in a first corner fall.
Marini had been linked with Rossi's new Moto3 grand prix team, which has so far confirmed only Romano Fenati.
“Bringing Luca Marini into our team is another step within the agreement we have with Valentino Rossi,” said Jorge Martinez Aspar. “Luca is determined to work hard and hopefully he can adapt quickly to the team and get a good feeling in the final CEV round of this season so that we can lay solid foundations for 2014.
“We will have Luca Marini with us in the Spanish Championship next season and I am sure we will see a positive evolution from him. Hopefully this will involve the occasional wild-card appearance in the World Championship, which I think would be important for the Aspar Team.
“I have seen him ride at Albacete and Misano and his lap times were good at both circuits. I think he has good potential and I trust Valentino Rossi when he tells me that he is very intelligent.”
Marini added: “In 2014 I will be riding for the Aspar Team and that makes me very proud. I think that if we work hard together we can achieve great things.”
