Niccolo Antonelli made his KTM debut during a private Moto3 test at Almeria on Monday.

The Gresini team, long associated with Honda in the MotoGP class, has raced FTR-Honda machinery since the formation of Moto3 at the start of last year.

The switch to the title-winning KTM package comes after a tough 2013 season that saw Antonelli just 17th in the standings.

The 17-year-old Italian completed over 70 laps during his first day with the KTM, setting an unofficial best time of 1m 40.5s.

"It has been a very positive first day on the KTM. I really enjoyed riding the new bike and I'm very happy!" he said. "I was immediately impressed by the engine power, and also by the chassis, even if we will need some more time to completely understand its behaviour.

"In the afternoon we already worked a little bit on the set-up and although I was focused on getting familiar with the bike, we did some very good lap times. We have to work hard in the pre-season, but I'm very confident. Tomorrow we want learn and improve even more".

Fausto Gresini added: "I'm very pleased that Niccol? has found a smile in this cold day of testing. His motivation is really high, and also the whole team is excited to work with him. Now, the most important thing is to understand in the best way the new bike, in order to make the most of its potential."

Isaac Vinales will join Antonelli in Gresini's 2014 Moto3 line-up.

As well as Almeria, some Moto2 and Moto3 teams were on track for private testing at Valencia on Monday.
