The new Caterham Moto2 team completed its debut tests with private outings at Jerez and Almeria.

Already present in F1, Caterham is expanding into two-wheel grand prix racing with Suter machinery next season.

Frenchman Johann Zarco and reigning AMA Superbike champion Josh Herrin have been signed to ride for the Caterham team, run by former grand prix racer Johan Stigefelt.

Zarco took this year's Suter chassis to two podiums during his second Moto2 season and spent the Almeria test working on the 2014 design.

Just outside the top ten at the well-attended Jerez test, Caterham said that 'competitive lap times' were set at Almeria.

"Today I found the new chassis even more comfortable than the old one and my lap times were better, which I am very happy about," said Zarco. "The team are also pleased with the information we found today, which is important for me.

"We are getting to know the bike quickly, my mechanics are very good and I am really happy with the way they work and concentrate.

"Finishing the season like this, with good lap times and feeling relaxed on the bike is a good sign for 2014 and I will definitely fight at the front and enjoy my next season in Moto2."

Rookie Herrin has had a new bike, tyres, team and circuits to learn. 17th on the unofficial Jerez timesheets, the American boosted his confidence with a strong final day at Almeria.

"Today was really good for me and I improved my lap time by over a second. I exceeded my goal for today and feel so comfortable with the bike that I go into the winter fully confident for next season," he said.

"This trip to Europe has been big for me and really productive both on and off track. I have had a lot of fun with the team; we have all gelled really well together and built a strong relationship.

"This winter I will continue my training and focus on making sure I am on top of my game, plus I can start getting excited about 2014 and my new adventure in Moto2."
