On Monday afternoon newly crowned MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez underwent successful surgery to correct his nasal bridge, in order to improve breathing through the nose.

The operation was necessary 'due to a deviated septum that produced a respiratory obstruction preventing him breathing properly'.

Marquez decided to have the procedure during the winter testing ban, which began on Sunday.

Surgery took place at the Universitari Quir?n Dexeus Hospital, with Repsol Honda rider Marquez now required to rest for one week.
