POLL: Should MotoGP change its points system?

Should the MotoGP World Championship spice up its points system?
F1 has announced that it will award double points for the final round of the championship from 2014.

The move, which will apply to both the drivers' and constructors' titles, has been made “in order to maximise focus on the championship until the end of the campaign.”

F1's new double-points scenario sits between the traditional system of equal points for each race and a 'Showdown' style format used in BSB (and some car championships), which effectively guarantees a final round title decider.

Rookie Marc Marquez won this year's MotoGP title by just four points over Jorge Lorenzo - however it is impossible to say if the outcome would have changed with double points, since both riders would have adjusted their final round tactics.

What we do know is that heading into the Valencia finale Dani Pedrosa would also have been in title contention, sitting 38 points from team-mate Marquez. Double points would mean 50 rather than 25 points for victory, 40 points for second, 32 points for third etc.

Meanwhile the 13 point pre-Valencia difference between Marquez and Lorenzo would have meant that, rather than needing fourth or higher to be champion even if Lorenzo won the race, Marquez would have required second place had Lorenzo won.

In reality Lorenzo rode a tactical race to try and back up the field, before claiming victory over Pedrosa. Marquez stayed out of trouble for a safe third.
