Cal Crutchlow is the first rider to break the 7 out of 10 mark in this year's Crash.net Star of the Year vote, placing the Englishman in fourth place and - as in the world championship - the top non-factory rider.

After claiming his first MotoGP podiums in 2012, Crutchlow affirmed his reputation as a potential MotoGP race winner in 2013.

Often amongst the 'aliens', at least during the first-half of the season, four podiums in five races - including career-best second places at Le Mans and Sachsenring, as well as a debut pole at Assen - had Crutchlow comfortably out-scoring factory Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi for a time.

Though he struggled to maintain that level in the latter half of the year, Crutchlow took a further pole position at Brno - one of seven front row starts - on the way to securing a career best fifth in the standings and a factory ride for 2014, albeit with Ducati rather than Yamaha.

Crutchlow scored 37 points more than last season, when he was seventh in the championship.

About the vote:
Over 30,000 votes were cast for the 2013 Crash.net MotoGP Star of the Year poll, where viewers were asked to award each of this year's full-time participants - only Ben Spies and Karel Abraham, injured for large parts of the season, were not included - with a mark out of ten.

The average score for each rider was then used to determine the final ranking, which will be revealed in full once the winner is announced.

Voting instructions were as follows: “It's your vote, which means the criterion is entirely up to you. If you feel results are all that matter in racing, vote according to the championship standings or race wins. However most will feel factors such as machinery, performance relative to a team-mate, riding style, experience, injuries, progress and personality should also be taken into account.

“Remember, it's not just about who you want as the winner - often the most difficult decisions will be how highly to mark riders that finished lower down in the standings, on less competitive machinery.”

Last year was the first year that the reigning MotoGP world champion had not won the Crash.net vote, will that be repeated in 2013?

he is the 5th fastest or he would have been 4th. He has been to inconsistent overall. He is fast though and I would have loved to see him on a factory honda or yam for next year. Dont think Ducati will be ready next year to re appear at the front

Dovi isnt in top ten. They already said Nicky is highest Ducati rider. Top three is MM, JL and DP. As for Cal he seemed to go great guns until he got the Ducati contract then seemed to ride well within himself. Rode the nuts off the Yam until he got what he wanted.
