Former 500cc Grand Prix World Champion Wayne Gardner hopes his teenage son will make his Moto3 debut as a wildcard this season.

Remy Gardner, who turns 16 in February, has been racing since he was 10 and in the past two seasons has been honing his skills in the Spanish CEV championship.

Last year, he also finished on the podium in the European Road Race Championship at Albacete.

Gardner, who won the 1987 500cc crown with Honda, said he was 'confident' his son would shine in 2014.

"I am pretty confident he is going to be strong this year. He is fast now, we have been through the hard yards and we have some good choices for teams," the Australian star told the official MotoGP website.

"I hope to get him into the Spanish championship again - that is the priority and that will happen - but I would also like to get him about four Moto3 wildcard entries.

"What Remy does and which team he goes with will depend on how it can also help us with those wildcard entries."
