Aleix Espargaro wrapped up a sensational Sepang MotoGP test in style by breaking into the 1m 59s bracket on the FTR-M1.

The Spanish rider has been a revelation this week and continued to increase his pace on the final day, joining Factory riders Marc Marquez, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo as the only riders to set a 1m 59s lap at the opening pre-season test of 2014.

The NGM Mobile Forward Racing prospect lapped in 1m 59.998s to take fourth place on his Open class machine ahead of LCR Honda's Stefan Bradl and Pedrosa on the Repsol Honda.

However, Espargaro is struggling for pace once his tyres begin to lose traction.

"I'm really happy with the bike and the team. We made a good step forward with the setting of the machine but there is still a lot of work to do," he said.

"Today we did a long run to understand better how the bike and the electronics work, but we are still struggling a lot when the tyres drop down. I'm confident because this is just the first test.

"We will all continue to work and I also have to adapt my riding style to the new machine. I couldn't leave Sepang with a better result."

Colin Edwards was 14th fastest on the second of the FTR-M1 Yamahas and the third quickest Open class rider overall behind Espargaro and Nicky Hayden on the RCV1000R.
