Moto3 title runner-up Alex Rins has undergone surgery on his right wrist to remove a cyst, ruling him out of this week's Jerez test.
“The procedure was performed to remove a synovial cyst hidden in the schapholunate of Rins' right wrist,” said a statement from Rins' sponsor Repsol. “The cyst also formed part of a partial scapholunate ligament injury suffered by the Spanish rider. Microsurgical techniques were used to remove the cyst and repair the ligament as a preventative measure, to thus avoid possible problems during the season.”
Rins must rest for seven days and will thus miss this week's second official pre-season test.
The Estrella Galicia 0.0 team is switching from KTM to Honda machinery for this season. Current CEV Repsol champion Fabio Quartararo will join Rins' team-mate Alex Marquez for the three-day Jerez test.
Rins was tenth fastest, but the top Honda, at last week's Valencia test. 2013 title rivals Maverick Vinales and Luis Salom have both moved to Moto2.
