Sepang II MotoGP Test: Marquez to miss Phillip Island test next week

'I'm obviously disappointed that I'm not in Sepang at the moment and to miss Phillip Island is also unfortunate, but we believe it is the best decision' - Marc Marquez
Marc Marquez will miss next week's test at Phillip Island in Australia, Honda has confirmed.

The Repsol Honda star, who was ruled out of the Sepang II MotoGP test this week after breaking his fibula last Wednesday in a training accident, will now not have the chance to test prior to the beginning of the opening round of the world championship in Qatar on March 23.

The news was announced after world champion Marquez underwent a check-up on Wednesday in Barcelona, when he was advised by doctors to rest rather than risk further injury over the coming weeks.

A dejected Marquez said: “I'm obviously disappointed that I'm not in Sepang at the moment and to miss Phillip Island is also unfortunate, but we believe it is the best decision.

“After my meeting today with Dr. Mir, although he was happy with the general situation of my leg after only seven days since the accident, he advised against taking unnecessary risk.

“So I will take time to rest and get myself as fit as possible to return to Qatar for the first race in the best shape possible.”

The tyre test in Australia takes place from March 3-5.

Ducati cleary is correct in opposing Marc to test in Qatar. There was an agreement, although not within the rules but a gentleman's agreement nonetheless that no factory bike or rider will test in Qatar, only satellite and open team can test... And no Marc is injured, suddenly Honda forgot about the agreement and will make Marc test... Typical Honda, will get what they want. It was Marc's fault that he got injured so the man up and suffer the consequences. I was a huge fan of Honda for a very long time, but for the past few season when they oppose everything the could make the sport go back to close racing is very disappointing. No I am all for Ducati to be a pirate and stick the rules to Nakamoto's ass.
