Sepang II MotoGP Test: Nicky Hayden '18km/h top speed difference'

"I know the last test it was 18km/h. I can't imagine it's any closer" - Nicky Hayden.
Nicky Hayden has revealed the extent of the top speed deficit he is facing with the new Production Honda.

The Drive M7 Aspar rider finished Thursday's second day of Sepang MotoGP testing in 14th place and two seconds from the front, after which he was asked about the size of the top speed difference.

“I'm not sure for today,” replied the 2006 world champion. “I know the last test it was 18km/h. I can't imagine it's any closer. It's all the same parts and we now have the same gearing.”

To put that into perspective, it is the same as the top speed difference between the quickest Factory class machine and Aspar's former Aprilia CRT bike during last October's Malaysian Grand Prix.

Hayden was also asked for his opinion on the problems being experienced by some of the Factory class riders with the new 2014 tyres.

As an Open class rider Hayden has a softer rear tyre available compared to the Factory class, but his harder tyre option is the same as the softer Factory option.

“The soft tyre I have is not too bad, but the harder tyre was really not good at all, which is their soft tyre. So I can imagine they are not so happy.

“Edge grip was not bad but it was really spinning up.”

Very frustrated for Honda customers! Production bike is a DOG, it would be more fit for World Superbike. Not saying anything bad about that series cuz I luv it, but come on Honda. Yamaha have interpreted rules much better. If I was team owner I would want my money back, and be knocking on Yamaha's door. Accountability needs to come into play. Top speed is an absolute joke! I would like to see all top speeds posted.
