NGM Forward Racing's Aleix Espargaro was back at the top of the times in Qatar as the Spanish rider ended the MotoGP test within two tenths of a second of Jorge Lorenzo's pole position lap from 2013.

Espargaro's lap of 1m 54.874s on the Open class Yamaha gave him the number one position on the third and final day of the test under the floodlights at the Losail circuit by 0.033s from his brother Pol on the Tech 3 Yamaha, who fractured his left collarbone in a spill late in the session.

As well as his peerless single-lap speed, Aleix's race simulation on the harder tyre was equally impressive.

"I'm really happy with the work done today. I was fast on the single lap but I was also able to ride with a strong pace," said Espargaro.

"I'm very satisfied because in the race simulation I could ride with the same lap times [Jorge] Lorenzo did last year in the race, so I'm confident and I look forward to the first race."

It was a positive day also for Colin Edwards, who continued to improve his lap times in Qatar as the American rider finished seventh and the third fastest Open rider behind team-mate Espargaro and Andrea Iannone on the Pramac Ducati.

"I'm quite satisfied with these three days of testing. I could improve my lap times and also my feeling with the bike," said Edwards.

""Today we worked on the electronics with a positive feedback. There is still room for improvement but we have done a step forward.

"I'm comfortable with the bike and I look forward to the start of the season."
