Alvaro Bautista was left bitterly disappointed after the Gresini Honda rider fell in the latter stages of the Qatar MotoGP while holding third place.

Bautista was part of a long list of fallers at the Losail circuit but was uncertain over the exact cause of the spill, which denied the Spaniard the chance to fight for a podium finish, handing third to Dani Pedrosa on a plate.

"Luckily I'm fine, but it was a strange crash. I entered corner number two in the same way as the previous laps but I suddenly lost the front," he said.

"I had some problems with the brakes during the race: I don't know if this has contributed to the fall, however I am very sorry for the team. Until the crash I was having fun battling for the first positions. My start was not so good, but gradually I was able to charge through the field," added Bautista.

"At one point I found myself in second place and surely we could get on the podium. I apologise to the team and my fans, and I hope to bring home the result next time."
