Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa expects to take a significant step forward on Saturday after ending the opening day at the Austin MotoGP in third place on the time sheets.

Pedrosa set his best lap of 2m 04.623s on the hard front and rear Bridgestone tyres in the afternoon to finish 1.333s behind team-mate and pacesetter Marc Marquez and 0.128s down on Andrea Dovizioso in second.

The Spaniard is comfortable with the set-up of his RC213V and is ready to push on and close the gap to Marquez on Saturday.
"Today we did a good job with the tyres. We tried the hard compound and it went fairly well for us," he said.
