Valentino Rossi's newly formed 'VR46' Moto3 team celebrated its first podium finish courtesy of Romano Fenati in Sunday's Grand Prix of the Americas.
Fenati, who scored a victory during his rookie 2012 season but struggled to tenth last year on FTR Honda machinery, crossed the line just 0.069s from race winner and fellow KTM rider Jack Miller.
Rossi congratulated Fenati on the side of the circuit during the slowdown lap, while seventh for team-mate Francesco Bagnaia completed a strong second event for the team after a best of tenth place (Bagnaia) at round one.
"I'm very happy about Romano and all of the team. Also [Bagnaia] is in seventh position," said Rossi. "The team worked very well, I'm so happy for my guys. But especially it was Romano that made the difference today. He did a great, great race."
Nine time world champion Rossi also praised Miller, the entertaining Australian claiming his second win in as many starts for the factory Red Bull KTM team.
"Also a great race. I am a big fan of Jack Miller. He is a great guy," said Rossi.
