Aleix Espargaro bounced back from an engine problem in FP1 at the Argentina MotoGP to finish third fastest on the NGM Forward Yamaha at the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit.

Espargaro's time of 1m 40.566s saw him finish as the top Yamaha rider behind the Repsol Honda pair of Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa.

The Spanish rider quickly found his bearings at the new MotoGP circuit in FP2 and had a smile on his face once more after the chatter issues that affected his chances at the Austin MotoGP last time out.

"I'm happy to be back on track after Austin, where we had big chatter problems with the rear tyre. I enjoyed riding the bike today," said Espargaro, who was 1.253s off the top time set by Marquez.

"We did a great time with the harder rear tyre and then with the softer tyre at the end we did a really fast lap. We are on the 'first row' at the moment and the first Yamaha so we can say it was a good day.

"This morning the tyre was destroyed after three or four laps, in the afternoon it got better and tomorrow I think it will keep improving," he added.

"It is normal because this is new tarmac and quite dirty. We will keep on working, aiming at repeating the strong performance we had in Qatar."

Espargaro's team-mate, Colin Edwards, finished FP2 in 14th place.
