Andrea Dovizioso ended the opening day of practice at Jerez third fastest with the Italian taking advantage of a late session change to the soft front tyre to set his time.

Speaking to the media, including Crash.net, Dovizioso admitted after the session that with the top ten riders from the opening three sessions of practice moving automatically to QP2 that it was important for Ducati to get a good lap on the boards and lessen the pressure during tomorrow morning's free Practice session.

"I wasn't so fast until the end of the session because I used the 34 (harder tyre) and then when I put in a used rear 33 it was faster than I thought," said the Italian. "I'm happy to have that feeling because I was worried that I couldn't go fast with the 33.

"At the end I made a good lap time with the soft tyre and it's always important to do that and to stay in the top ten. If the conditions are better tomorrow morning the lap time will be easier to do but it's always nice to be at the front."

When asked about the overall feeling on the tyres Dovizioso admitted that the difficult track conditions, track temperature was in excess of 50C today, it was very difficult to find a balance with the bike.

"Today was interesting with the front tyre. I thought that the 33, the hard tyre from last year, was too soft so Bridgestone took their hardest tyre, the 34, but unfortunately they don't work and the feeling was not so good. I don't understand why because last year we could use the 34 many times and in the past we used it at many races."

Touching on whether it would be possible to race with the softer tyres Dovizioso commented that even with his harder tyre it will be a struggle:

"I don't think that we can race the soft and I am worried that the hard may not be hard enough for the race. It's more important though the front and rear because for sure the drop of the rear is difficult to manage but if you don't have the front to brake harder and hold the tyre it doesn't matter the grip of the rear.

"We have to keep working to find the best setup on the front because it's too soft and it's so easy to go over the limit and lose the front. But it's like last year."
