Spain MotoGP: Moto2: 'Struggling' Rea battling with lack of feeling

Gino Rea admits he is 'struggling' to get a good feeling with his Suter following the first day of Moto2 action in Jerez.
The ultra-competitive Moto2 class is not the place to be struggling to find a balanced setup, particularly with two seconds covering the top 29 riders after the opening day of practice, but for Gino Rea a setup mistake cost him the majority of the 90 minutes on track with the Londoner struggling down in 30th.

The continuation of a trying season thus far for the Englishman, Rea admits he is struggling to find a good feeling with the AGT Rea Suter, an issue that made its presence felt on the first day of Moto2 action in Spain.

"We were struggling a bit to be honest,” he told “We went a completely different direction with the bike in FP1 and I tried to adjust my riding style a bit but we didn't have enough time to make that work so we went back a bit towards what we had at the last test here and we'll try some changes tomorrow to go in the direction that we need.

"We started that change in FP2-changing the front geometry and then the rear with the pivot and how it uses the shock. We had a few changes going on all at once but you can run out time quickly because tomorrow we've got final free practice and qualifying so hopefully these steps go in the right direction."

The Englishman, racing for the all new AGT Rea squad, has spent the opening three races of the season with the team and rider both finding their feet and adapting to each other.

Handling problems have been a bugbear for Rea this year but a setup change in the afternoon helped alleviate some of the issue and he is now looking to continue with those changes in FP3 and Qualifying.

"Coming into this weekend I was lacking feeling in the bike, front and rear, so we tried to help it in the second session and it was a little bit better so we'll continue in that way tomorrow. In the second session we made a bit of a mistake by using the hard tyre from the first session but I did my best lap on the last lap with it. We're learning a lot about the chassis with the geometery changes and I've got to adjust my riding style to suit that.

"We used this afternoon as a little bit of a test and hopefully tomorrow we can jump up the laptime. With the amount of things that we're trying at the moment our speed is not that much of a surprise. I know what our potential is and what we can do so now we've got to work hard and make sure that we're going in the right direction."
