Spain MotoGP: Redding unlikely to test Brembo/Ohlins in 2014

While Scott Redding has had a strong start to his rookie campaign his request to test his Open Honda with Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes has been rejected by his Gresini squad.

The Italian team, the only outfit in MotoGP to use Showa suspension and Nissin brakes, have tested Brembo brakes with Alvaro Bautista during the Grand Prix of America's last month however Redding admits that it is unlikely he will have the chance to do so this year.

The Open class Honda was developed using the Ohlins/Brembo combination and with Redding's fight with Nicky Hayden to be the leading Open Honda proving competitive in the early races it is clear that giving any edge to the American could place Redding at a disadvantage.

When speaking exclusively to Redding was asked about whether or not he will have the opportunity to test the package this season, but admits it seems unlikely.

"We've requested to try Brembo and Ohlins and the team basically said 'No' to me but in my contract I do have the option," said Redding. "Alvaro tested the Brembo brakes in Texas and didn't think much of them but every rider is different and to go by what he thinks when he's always been on Nissin brakes in MotoGP whereas I've tried different ones. I'd like to try it just to know for myself but if not I'll have to pull through this year with what we have."

When pressed as to whether he thought that at Monday's test it might be a possibility to try the Brembo brakes Redding doesn't expect to be getting the opportunity.

"I don't think so. Maybe something comes but we're just working on trying to get our stuff working well."
Given that he has a contract that stipulates that he should be allowed to test both package it will be interesting to see how this develops throughout the season. While Gresini's decision to use the Showa/Nissin combination has long been seen as a key factor in their relationship with HRC the manufacturer refuted any claims that Gresini receiving Factory machinery was linked to their supplier agreements.

From HRC's perspective, president Shuhei Nakamoto has deviated any decision to stick with Showa/Nissin to Gresini, stating in last year's season closing Valencia Grand Prix that 'it is a team decision [for Gresini] to use Showa and Nissin.'

JG94: I thought It was in his contract to have a test on the factory bike this year and a prototype honda next year, that's why he took the deal because it meant going somewhere, something that a pramac bike is unlikely to do.
I might be wrong, but I think the only thing in his contract was that next year he gets Bautista's bike ... Showa and Nissin again ... not exactly a game changer, IMO. On the other hand, Ianone's Pramac Ducati is in fact the third Factory Ducati on the grid. And back in 2012 when both Ianone and Redding tested the Ducati, Scott had better results.
