After a forgettable fourth place on his 200th grand prix start in Sunday's home Spanish MotoGP, Jorge Lorenzo concluded Monday's test a close 0.262s from man-of-the-moment Marc Marquez.

Lorenzo held second for much of the day, with a late improvement cutting Marquez's advantage from 0.6s.

"We concentrated on the electronics to try to stop the bike better under braking, which we improved a bit, and also something in the rear suspension to reduce pumping and spinning under acceleration," Lorenzo told the official MotoGP website.

"That gave me a little more confidence to open the throttle. Finally I think with the softer tyre we can keep a more constant pace. So today has been interesting to see which tyre suits our bike best."

Lorenzo, who chose the medium option front tyre and harder (medium compound) rear tyre for the race, added: "I think with the soft tyre we could have done a better race. Now we know! So in Le Mans we will concentrate eon the soft tyre instead of the hard one."

After a disastrous start to the year in Qatar and Texas, Lorenzo is a massive 65 points behind the unbeaten Marquez after just four rounds.
